Becoming A Yoga Instructor

Just like with any other teaching job, in order to become a Yoga instructor you must first learn all that you can about Yoga. Taking some Yoga classes yourself is a good way to get started. Do some research and finding the nearest Yoga teacher training program available in your area that is accepted by the Yoga Alliance which is a nationally recognized organization.

The National Yoga Alliance offer two different degrees of Yoga Alliance certificates. The first is a 200 hour training course and the other being a 500 hour training course.

The 200 Hour training course is the first training course and is the minimum requirement to teach for most Yoga studios. However to become an expert in the field of Yoga one must continue his/her education.

The 500 Hour training course is a far more intense and in depth Yoga training course course. After a person completes the 500 hour training course they are then allowed to place the letters RYT after their name, which stands for Registered Yoga Teacher.

Other types of Yoga that a person might be interested in learning or teaching are listed below:

  • Anusara
  • Baptiste Power Yoga
  • Bikram
  • Iyengar
  • Bikram Yoga
