Types of Organic Wine Classifications
When shopping for organic wines, you will see some different organic classifications. It can be confusing to know what you are actually purchasing. The following should help you determine the quality of the organic wine you are considering.

*
100% Organic Wine- all ingredients must be 100% organic- certified by USDA Organic.

*
Organic Wine- 95% of the ingredients must be organic.

*
Made with Organic Grapes - 70% of ingredients must be organic.

*
Biodynamic Wine - Wine was made by a vineyard that follows organic gardening principles.

*
Salmon Safe Wine - Not necessarily organic wine, but these vineyards guard against run off to protect salmon habitats.

*
Vegan Wines- This has become a much searched after wine quality in the UK especially with the onset of BSE "mad cow disease".  During the wine making process many wineries use animal products to keep the wine from clouding up. During the fining process certified vegan wines will use one of the following instead of animal products: bentonite clay, diatomaceous earth, carbon, and kaolin. Some of the standard animal products that may be used in nonvegan wines are :egg whites, egg albumin, casein, chitin, gelatin and isinglass.
