How to recycle jack-o-lanterns.

"10% of residential waste (by weight) in the week after Halloween is composed of discarded jack-o-lanterns."

Most of us purchase our halloween pumpkins - fall decorations around the beginning of October.  To make your pumpkins last longer so you can recycle them after halloween try some of the following suggestions.  If you have a recycling suggestion, please email me at
allisonray@gmail.com.  I would love to add them.

Pumpking recycling idea #1:  Paint or color on the face instead of cutting out the face in the beginning of October.  This will make the pumpking last longer so you can recycle it later.

Pumpking recycling idea #2:  Make a tradition in your family to carve the jack-o-lanterns on October 30th so the design will be fresh for halloween.  Then the evening of halloween after the festivities or Nov 1 morning, remove the skin from the pumpkin, discard any brown pieces.  Cut the remaining jack-o-lantern up into chunks, boil, drain, food process and freeze in zip lock bags.
When you are making your Thanksgiving treats such as pumpking pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cheese cake or pumpkin cookies you will have fresh pumpkin in the freezer ready to use.
