Recycling Old Jeans

If you have children or if you are among the millions of dieters you can relate to my dilema of tons of jeans that do not fit anyone in my family at any given time.  If you decide not to donate them to a local charity, you might consider some of the following ways to recycle your old jeans.  If you have some jean recycling ideas, please email me at allisonray@gmail.com.

Recycling old jeans idea #1: Cut up the legs of the blue jeans into large squares so you can make patches when newer jeans wear out on the knees.

Recycling old jeans idea #2:
Make a blue jean tote or book bag. For a free blue jean bag pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #3: Make blue jean book covers. for a free blue jean book cover pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #4: Make a laundry bag from an old pair of jean overalls.  Click here for a free pattern to make an overall laundry bag.

Recycling old jeans idea #5: If the jeans have become high waters but still fit.  Cut the legs off the jeans and serge or fold under the edges and make shorts.

Recycling old jeans idea #6: Make a blue quilted blue jean draw string bag.  Serge pieces of blue jeans together until you have a larg enough piece to make the desired size bag.  For a free jean draw string pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #7:  If the jeans are high waters but still fit around the belly, (for a girl) add a nice piece of lace around the bottom of the jeans to extend the legnth.  Or you can make a decorative cuff by quilting three strips of scrap fabrics and serging them onto the bottom of the legs. These are actually really in style right now- nothing like being eco-chic!

Recycling old jeans idea #8: Make a child's little blue jean purse.  For a free jean purse pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #9: Make a jeans bulletin board to organize all your familys important activities.  For a free jeans bulleting board pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #10: Make a funky blue jean overall dress.  This can be done several ways.  You can use the entire overalls like in the free pattern or you can use just the top of the overalls (the bib and straps) and serge a skirt onto the bottom.

Recycling old jeans idea #11: Recycle your old jeans into several different types of jean skirts.  For a free long recycled jean skirt pattern click here.  For a free pattern recycled mini jean skirt click here. For a free floor length recycle jean skirt pattern click here.

Recycling old jeans idea #12:
If you have an old pair of overalls in great shape, you can decorate them with appliques for every day use or for a holiday and sell them on ebay.  I have seen these sell for as much as $200.00. Click here for boutique overall patterns.
